Curriculum Design

We are still discussing how to design the curriculum and we still do not clear how to make it correctly. After hearing the explanation from our lecture, then we understand and know how the way to design the curriculum. To design the curriculum have 3 parts which is:

Part 1 – The four parts Curriculum Design
Part 2 – Curriculum Sources Curriculum Design
Part 3 – Design Dimensions Considerations Curriculum Design

Part 1 – The four parts

For this part tell about the step when we want to design the curriculum. We must put the objective first, so after that we can choose the suitable topic, activity and provide the duration to teach the children. Next, we should explain the step each activity and give reason why the activity are relate to the topic. Lastly, we can do evaluation based on the activity that we do to teach the children.

Part 2 – Curriculum Sources curriculum design

When we want to design the curriculum, we must refer to the appropriate resources because we can design a good curriculum to teach the children.

Part 3 – Design Dimensions Considerations curriculum design

1) Scope
For example, what did discovered from the topic, able to achieve objective, what we want to teach and how long we want to teach the each topic.

2) Sequence
Arrangement that is appropriate to design a curriculum.

3) Continuity
What children learn from topic 1 and the next topic. Every topic must have continuity because we can see their children achievement based on each activity.

4) Integration
Refers to linking all types of knowledge and experiences contained within the curriculum plan. For example, do the objective first and then arrange appropriate topic. After that, we tell about learning experience for each topic and lastly we do the evaluation based on the activity.

5) Articulation
Children be able to do something well. For example, children achieve for every topic when they do the activity.

6) Balance
We should strive to give appropriate weight to each aspect of the design. We need to make sure are curriculum that we do are equal and balance.

SIX TYPES OF CURRICULUM: RECOMMENDED, WRITTEN, SUPPORTED, TAUGHT, TESTED, LEARNED

1)  The Recommended Curriculum
A group of people who are professional and expert in the subject matter such as headmaster and owner kindergarten. They also are specialist in certain areas such as open arts and music schools. They have experiences because already working in many years. Government such as ministry of education and state government also are group of professional. People who professional can determine academic standard.

2) The Written Curriculum
The written curriculum is much more specific and comprehensive than the recommended curriculum. State the specific objective is a sequence to master each objective. The written curriculum has five elements which are concept, knowledge, skill, attitudes and action. The written curriculum is an important component of authentic literacy, have the ability to read, write, and think effectively.

 3) The Supported Curriculum
The Supported Curriculum is about teaching and learning material. There is influenced by time factor and role of the teacher, principal and parents. For example, teacher should know the materials can attract interest of the students when learn in the classroom. Teacher must find the way how to using the materials are effectively because can help students to achieve their academic. Parents also can give chance to their children to know and learn new knowledge in child’s environment.

4) The Taught Curriculum
The Taught Curriculum is about teaching method and how the teachers teach their students in the classroom. Active teaching can have many interactions and also can help students to increase their thinking skills. From discussion between teacher and students, teacher will know student’s need. Other than that, if student have a problem in their academic, teacher must know how to teach and explain until their students understand about the topic.

5) The Tested Curriculum
Evaluation based on learning outcomes. Teacher can evaluate their students when give the test and observe in the classroom. Observation is suitable for age 5 years old and below while for 6 years old and above can give test to know their level understanding about what they have learn.

6) The Learned Curriculum
The term learned curriculum is used here to denote all the changes in values, perceptions, and behaviour that occur as a result of school experiences. It about the experience in school that students can get with peers, teacher and others. For example, students learn how to respect other people. The Learned Curriculum is about last part of the chapter analyzes what they have learn and teacher can do the reinforcement to give the overall about the lesson. From that, students can more understand and clear what they have learn.

From the types of curriculum, what can I conclude, as a teacher must know how to attract interest and focus of their students when teaching in the classroom. Not only that, teacher should master every topic before teaching their students in the classroom. When we have knowledge and skill we can help students to accomplish their goals.

What did I discovered?

On this date of November 10, 2016 we have been asked why we chose hygiene curriculum.

For second assignment, we need to design our own curriculum and my group has chosen hygiene curriculum. Our group have discussed to select and focus on dental care. Nowadays, we can see that parents are not taking care seriously about their children's dental care. Besides that, we also want to make a difference because there are not many curriculum that teach about dental care. In this curriculum, we can teach the children how to brush the teeth correctly, what are the nutritious foods that good for child’s teeth and the importance in meeting the dentist. From that, we will help those children are problem with their teeth. We also invite dentist to give the talk because be able to give explanation more clearly and through this can get trust of parents. So, from the dental care curriculum, we can help the children to give out oral health awareness and bring out that confident smile for them.

Hello everyone!!!

Today I want to share what I have learned in the last lesson it about learning theories in curriculum. Why do we need to know about learning theories in curriculum? Learning theories in curriculum divide in three group such as behaviourist, cognitive and humanistic.

Learning theories are important to education because it is used to guide their children based on the different learning styles that exist. It also help teacher to guide of the different methods used to enhance learning in the classroom. We need to know about learning theories because we can be more effective as educators. It can help children to learn and get experience when they do activity related behaviourist, cognitive and humanistic. For example, children build a block with their friends. First, child show their action when start to play a block. After that, they think how to build the block and if they unsuccessful to build the block, they can try again until their successful. From the activity, children can learn and know how to complete the building. At the same time children have effort to do the any activity given by their teacher. Children will know they must complete their work and also have high internal strength.

Besides that, teacher should know learning theories because help them to use the curriculum in their own kindergarten. This is because each kindergarten or preschool have different curriculum whether government or private kindergarten. From the curriculum, we can produce children that they have talent and a lot of skills such as know how to play music instrument, good in communication and have creative art skills. Therefore, from the learning theories can help children to increase their imagination and they can use the experience in their future.
